Exactly how I feel right now.

The last week and a half have been some of the best times of my life. Both work and love, progress and celebration, delight and launch.

Sacrifice via timezones and red-eyes allow me to experience the life I crave. I have been given an unbelievably lucky number of gifts and opportunities in my life. I hope to say I have never turned one down for being too tired, sick, or not caring enough.

I have a pure positive update I deserve to write, one that just focuses on these gifts, but to better reflect at one point in my future, I feel I also have to acknowledge that these things come from my constant drive and willingness to fill my life with them.

Such a great idea, surprised it took this long for someone to build this. I feel like this concept should have been in every undergrad and MBA business plan competition for how often I hear my girlfriend and her friends lovingly reference Pinterest.

This is absolutely a great reproducible model to watch in the future too. Keep an eye on any new fast growing network and then provide business analytics to companies to monitor & capture users!

Bump’s new method to share photos from a mobile app to a computer is really clever.

Using simple technology (the phone’s accelerometer matched against the time the spacebar was pressed), they’re able to pull off a magical effect as the photo instantly appears on computer’s screen.

They’ve made photo sharing not only an intuitive process, but also into a really cool parlor trick.

Try it out.

Time Hop is a pretty interesting service that sends you an email of your social media checkins and posts from exactly a year ago. It has already served as a friendly reminder of the day I officially signed with Water Planet, I remember that dinner pretty well on its own though, and is just a fun tool to easily and cheerfully look back on your past.

I am sharing todays, because a year from today, I went to two of my absolute favorite cheap SF food spots. I only wish I would have gone to Saigon Sandwich for breakfast to complete the holy trinity of favorite cheap SF food.

Maybe I’ll save that for a future challenge.

I tear up looking at this proposed subway map of LA, a realistic dream as recent as 2010.

I would have two incredible lines within biking distance to my apartment, and when that happens – the city becomes so much more exciting, accessible, and truly connected.

It is the biggest missing hole in Los Angeles to me, coming from Manhattan, is how incredibly compartmentalized the city sadly is.

Are You Better Defined by Who You Know or What You Like? The Personal Graph vs the Interest Graph.:

This article is interesting, but I believe it better demonstrates the continued power of online personal segregation over “connection vs. interest”. You probably have very different connections and interests between Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Pinterest, etc. Either we choose to keep those interests and “digital lives” separately, or there simply isn’t a great way to bring them all together.

To me, the solution isn’t creating another network and putting everyone in circles, though I do like Google+. I believe the ideal solution integrates the networks you choose and combines your collective personality automatically. If you do something once online, it should magically propagate out to the rest of your other digital kingdoms (if you want it to) or to the one storage center that knows you best.

Wow. Just got a very strange letter in the mail.

An envelope with no return address held a single blank page with solely the words, “An Event 25,800 Years in the Making…” I already have weight lifting chalk on my hands so can’t tell if there is any white substances included! 25,800 years ago is related to the Mayan prophecy, maybe a ancient Mayan wrote this letter to me and it just arrived for me to warn the world.

Hopefully this mystery Mayan gives us more clues as time counts down to the predicted end of the world.

NBA realizes they have some PR issues to address. This ad is a great start. Bulls/Lakers finish on Christmas day didn’t hurt either. D Rose floater was so so sweet

Sports are special. People who don’t get that instantly may never get it, but watching this video is literally heartwarming to me. I get to watch a love story in two minutes and seriously had goose bumps the second Bird kicked it out to Jesus.

Not only that, but the CliPpers (CP) are going to be amazing this year – a team I have proudly cheered on since my original trip to LA in 2001 when Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson were giving people reasons to cheer at Staples when Kobe had an off night. I was in the building on April 22, 2006, when the Clippers won their first playoff game in 13 years. My friends and I became superfans of Chris Kaman because he A: performed admirably and B: was an ugly muther who was entertaining as hell in all of his interviews. Now, its all changed. We have the best and most exciting young forward and point guard in the game, whom could literally heard cats on the court if he damn well pleased.

Lob City… Here we come!

Making the Jump

Today, I quit my job in the best way possible.

Allan and I made a pact that if LayerVault could pay my rent, I’d make the jump and work full time. “Ramen profitable.” Two months after we launched at FOWA in London, I’m happy to say that time has come. We’re going to see this through. I am so proud of what Allan and I have been able to accomplish in two months. I can’t wait to see where we’ll be in another four.

Starting early next year, I’m going to put myself to the test. I’ve booked a one-way ticket to Berlin, my home base in Western Europe. My goal is to keep traveling east while putting in 60-hour weeks on LayerVault.

Now is an incredible time in history, especially for guys like me. Us developers are a weird class of folk: once relegated to our sunless parents’ basements, we’re now the most mobile class in the world. I’m going to put that to the test.

I’m not sure when I will come back to NYC exactly. Could be month. Could be six. In the meantime, Allan and I will continue building the foundation of a great software company. A solid business. With profits. Ten year plans instead of ten month runways. Our customers love us and we’re going to continue to make the best tools for designers out there. I’ll be posting pictures of progress on LayerVault and of my adventures around the world.

Here’s to the crazy ones.
