The Great Palace and surrounding shrines are like nothing I have ever seen before. How people were able to construct such massive buildings and still care about such finite detail and perfection just seems impossible. Yes, some of the building do have the feel of a teenagers perfectly bedazzled cell phone on a much grander scale, it is the massive scale that makes it all the more impressive.
It was a very spiritual area with many Thai coming from all over their countryside to pray and warship to the sights and statues off the land. One particular was the Emerald Buddha, glistening nearly three floors above the ground built up on a decorate perch overlooking the packed room off worshipers saying silent prayers and kneeling before the ancient gem.
Just a ten minute walk away was the Reclining Buddha. I can tell you it was large, or read off the measurements, but it still doesn’t describe a person the size of a cruise ship all in gold.
Too much text I know, but I just got to Macau and am trying to fire off some updates. Hopefully pics to follow by tonight.
