Bangla Street - Phuket’s Red Light District

If you turn a certain corner off Patong Beach you find yourself in a very scary place, the red light of Puket.  It’s scary not only because who knows what shows and acts hide themselves in these streets, its scary because the women are even numbered to the ladyboys, and it’s a bit of a game walking the streets trying to decide which is which.  You begin to question your judgment, which is not a happy thing to do when dealing with sexual orientation.  I can happily assure you no one in our group took up any of the enticing offers, but we did make friends and learn one amazing drinking game.

The game is a simple one but becomes as frustrating as good golf and as fun as any round of beer pong.  Take one piece of stump, I’m sure any wood would work, but you probably don’t want anything to hard, circles help for the next obvious reason.  Everyone surrounds the piece of wood and for every person you place a nail about 1/5 of the way in, enough to make sure it’s on it’s way and won’t squirm about too much.  Your “hammer” is a customized hammer, that instead of a easy even hitting surface, is completely sharpened down to a dull point, corresponding sides having opposite vertical and horizontal edge.  The best side seemed to be the edge that is parallel with the participant’s shoulders.  You go around the circle taking strikes at your hammer, the first person to push their nail all the way in is obviously the winner, and the last person with anything left then buys them a drink.  Simple, loud, fun, quick to learn, awesome.  We played with up to eight people, and it gets extremely nerve racking when it comes down to two people battling out last place.

If I don’t find a way to bring this back to NY, I have failed.
