Tokyo’s final chapter

The last 24 hours of Tokyo flew by, but I still really feel like I made the most of them.  After coming back from Kamakura I headed towards Aoyama, another cool young area.  This is also the area where many people consider to be their favorite retail building of Tokyo, the Prada store.  It bubbles and flexes in a very impressive manner, but I don’t think it touches the Bapexclusive of the same area.  With an all glass shoe wall partially being the only wall from an out door patio area that plays with your mind thinking it should be a continuing mirror.  Just crazy.  My camera died coming back from Kamakura, so that’s the best I can give you.

My next and final morning I woke up with one of my most anticipated journeys, head to the Tsukiji Fish Market.  Said to be the Mecca of sushi lovers, this is where every single ounce of seafood starts from that fills the tables and tummies of Japan.  There are restaurants mixed in with the auction and fish marts and supposedly have the most fresh and delicious sushi around.

Once again I was that kid in a candy store, eyes wide, mouth wide open, simply in heaven at my surroundings and the hurried precision filled environment.  Shop owners filling their orders for the night’s menu, housewives preparing their proud family dinners ingredients, and one big lucky white kid ready to try anything.

I did a couple laps of the tiny paths of blocks and finally settled on a sushi place that looked commercial enough to let me get by without speaking any of the language, but still get the true feel for the place.  I was welcomed with the four sushi chefs literally screaming at the top of their lungs for the welcoming of another lucky guest.  I picked a brightly colored lunch combo with a point and a grin and watched my chef slice up 12 different style fish pieces.  It was simply sushi perfection.  Fish has never tasted like this before in my life, with such silky textures I felt like I had been taken to sushi nirvana, and in fact I had.  I figured who knows when I will ever get this chance again, and ordered the three single most extravagant items on top of the lunch special that already blew away my taste buds.  Fatty tuna, premium prawn, and premium eel was the finale to this light show of the sea, and they did not disappoint.  Sushi heaven happy to have found it, I pray I will be lucky enough to one day visit again.
