I cold-brewed iced coffee yesterday using that NYTimes recipe that everyone I know has talked about. I had a small glass last night and was instantly raving about how amazing it is. Then I had another this morning with soy milk and simple syrup and I’m just speechless. It’s that good.

R’s reaction to this: “If we want to get really fancy, we can freeze the coffee to make ice cubes, so it never gets diluted.” Brilliant.

I’m doing this, and now I really want to make ice cubes out of the same wonderful mixture. Just so happen to have a perfect Muji ice tray that makes some of the best looking ice cubes I have ever seen.

People are leaving Mayor Fight in droves, and that’s ok

Most people that read this know that I built a fun little web application for Foursquare – MayorFight.com. I was/am a huge fan of Foursquare and really wanted to somehow join the excitement. I decided, as a test of my programming ability with web standards and to “scratch an itch”, to build an app that tells you what Foursquare locations you are closest to earning a mayorship of.

To my surprise, more people liked it than I ever imagined. It was featured in a couple blogs and was even mentioned in a cnn.com article talking about Foursquare and checkin applications. My biggest day had just over 300 people use the site, and I like to think there were a lot of really fun mayorships earned as a result across the world that next week.

This is the first trailing month that I haven’t had at least 1000 visits, a nice round number that I usually keep a good eye on. Sadly, I have to come to the reality that this number is likely going down and will not come back up.

I write this less as a wake, and more as a smiling look back over my shoulder to an exciting trail I just hiked up. I took this stupid little thought, and instead of just saying,”Why doesn’t someone do this?” – I decided I would.

Lot’s of great companies come from similar thoughts and actions, and though I never ever believed Mayor Fight would turn into a company, I also never ever thought it would be something that averaged over a 1000 visits a month for about a year either.

Mayor Fight will continue to be there for its fans for as long as I can keep it running with minimal upkeep, I have after all moved onto a very demanding business development role at my new company. But I will happily remember this moment of reflection, that I am truly lucky to be able to have the desire and skills to think up an idea and be able to share it with thousands across the world. Because now it gives me more time to ask an important question, “What’s next?”

If you can name 5 of the people in this photograph from 2003, you know your streetwear.

I like it when my favorite streetwear brand blogs pictures of me as a sign of street cred… towards the middle just to the right of the person in the yellow jacket – aka the only tall blond guy smiling.

The Hype Machine iPhone app, “Hype Radio” is here!

Very excited to finally have this in the store.  The app turns music blogs into mobile radio stations.  It’s a new way to experience the music that bloggers are writing about - a lean-back experience that lets the new stuff come to you.

yes. Yes. YES.

Hype Machine has now taken over half of my online music listening because it is always simple and great music. I can’t wait to have that same amazing curation of songs in pocket, always.

Dave Arnold’s Burger Of The Future (by Eater NY)

I love when my two favorite things come together so beautifully – science and food. Now, will someone please start making burgers exactly like this in LA so I can try it.

One of my great friend’s from Hermosa Beach is in the process of sailing/travelling around South America and to Asia and some fun places in between.

He is a hysterically funny person, and some of it even shines through in his better than I expected writing. I recommend anyone checking in on his travels, and guarantee you will be hooked If you know Whit at all.

Just click on some boxes and you’re on your way…

This is by far the coolest thing on the internet.  I just spent WAY too long making beats.  Emilie Simon used one during her last show at the Mercury Lounge too.

Wow, this is way to fun. Careful pressing the space bar, it clears the box to start over again.

Do you remember all the attention Drew Carey got for buying @drew on Twitter?

Long story short, the owner of @drew decided to auction of the twitter handle and planned to donate the proceeds to charity. Drew Carey comes along and decides he will donate $100,000 and even up it to $1,000,000 if he gets 1 million followers by the end of the year.

Unfortunately, the end of the year was the end of 2009. He didn’t get to 1M followers but did make the donation to get @drew.

This whole debacle recently popped into my head and I wondered how @drew was doing… WTF! No one is even using @drew, it hasn’t had an update since 2009!

Drew Carey apparently kept using his @DrewFromTV and the original Drew has moved onto @thatdrew.

Why on earth did this fail so hard?
